I feel like I’ve been slightly left behind by the amount of games that are getting released at the moment so I need to plan out what I’m going to play when I get some time and some money. I might write something interesting after I play some of them, if I suddenly gain the ability to write.

Today I played a big game of Civ V online with some of my pals. It’s a pretty fun game but it’s got some irritations.

The main problem with it is the myriad bugs, it seems to want to crash almost all the time, which is really irritating, and it does strange things like deciding to reload the game half-way through. The lobby system also seems to make sure that some people can’t join other people’s games, and suchlike. Another issue is the fact that it takes a huge amount of time to do anything in the game. We played from about 4:30 until about 8 and were no closer to finding the eventual winner. Bearing in mind this was my first proper game, this might not be a problem with the game so much as the people who were playing. Despite these flaws it’s still a fun game and it’s worth getting if you can get it cheap, and like computer games that may as well be board games.

Anyway, back to marvel vs capcom 3.

I’ve dropped Taskmaster in favour of Zero, mainly because Zero’s combos are ridiculously easy and I find it quite easy to apply pressure with him. He feels a lot safer after attacking, which is good considering how irritating I found it being launched everything I threw out Taskmaster’s swing. He’s definitely the better character of the two and has a lot of room for fun combos as well.

I’m still using Skrull and Deadpool, but I’ve switched the order, so I can still cheap out with deadpool’s guns when skrull’s gone. Skrull’s still my favourite though, great character. It’s really starting to strike me how much work has gone into the characterisations of the entire roster. Except a couple. Does Zero even have a character?

Anyway, off to Switzlerland tomorrow, to look at science!

Started playing some proper online matches today, current team is Deadpool/SuperSkrull/Taskmaster.

So far this team seems to be working well, it’s a bit short on the assist side of things at the moment, and I’m playing more keepaway than I’d like to.

Using Deadpool as Cable V2 at the moment, using guns to do damage and build meter, then using Skrull assist to pre-empt jump-ins. It helps that his combos are stupid easy and pretty decent too.

I really wanted Super Skrull to be the main driving force between my team, but I’m having trouble getting pressure in with him, need to improve my ability to mixup between jump-in attacks, command throw and standing light. At the moment I just seem to get lucky off the odd standing light attack and get my damage from there.

Taskmaster is a surprise addition for me, I didn’t really like the look of him in his trailer, but he’s rather decent and a lot of fun. Like with Skrull, I need to work on pressure and ways of getting in, at the moment just using Mighty Swing over and over again doesn’t seem to be doing it. It helps that I’ve got a basic combo to super down pat. I also need to work out what assist of his I should be using.

So far the game’s a lot of fun, it probably helps that a lot of people online don’t actually have a clue what they’re doing, I’ve seen about 20 fullscreen Wolverine explosion supers so far today, it’s ridiculous.

In other news I bought Civ V. Grand.

Marvel vc Capcom 3 is a good game. At least it seems to be so far. So far I’ve played with Deadpool, Skrull and Magneto, with Deadpool coming out as my favourite. Combos are very easy to pull off. Still fun though.

EDIT: Okay, Combos aren’t so easy. Skrull is my new favourite.

And thus, I have started something I am unlikely to ever use.
